How we rank the best restaurants in Paris

A ranking is only as good as its method. Ours combines two public sources, Google and TheFork ratings, displayed on each card exactly as published, with our own visits. We consider the food, of course, but also the service, consistency from one visit to the next, and the complete experience that makes us recommend a restaurant without hesitation.

The result is a selection of seven restaurants: our top three and four close contenders. These are the best restaurants in Paris in our view, across every style of dining.

The dining room at Onyx, number one in our ranking of the best restaurants in Paris

What earns a place in the top three

Consistency earns the top places, rather than fashion, decor alone or the buzz around an opening. Our top three restaurants have thousands of highly rated public reviews and deliver an experience we assess on every visit. On each card, “Our editors’ review” sets out our rating, the highlights and what you should know before booking.

Sphère, number two in our ranking of the best restaurants in Paris

How to make the most of our top seven

  • Book dinner in advance: these seven restaurants fill up quickly, especially from Thursday to Saturday
  • Consider lunch: the same cooking, often at a gentler price
  • Explore each restaurant’s page: opening hours, phone numbers and direct bookings, with no intermediary
  • Choose by occasion: our guides also group restaurants by what you have in mind, from date night and outdoor dining to great meat and special occasions

We update this ranking as we revisit the restaurants. Find your table, and enjoy your meal.
