There are floors you never visit. And then there is the one above Brasserie des Prés: Grouvie, the Left Bank's time machine to the disco years.
In the Cour du Commerce Saint-André, a stone's throw from Odéon, the Nouvelle Garde group (Brasserie Bellanger, Dubillot) has hidden a lounge on the first floor of its brasserie, complete with wall-to-wall carpet, shelves of vinyl and mirror balls.
The playlist turns up the funk, soul and disco, and the little room soon becomes a dance floor. Downstairs, the brasserie serves generous French classics; upstairs, guests toast, nibble and dance in an unashamedly seventies atmosphere.
Open Monday to Saturday until 01:00, Grouvie gives the Saint-Germain neighbourhood what it was missing: an approachable place to party, without a dress code or bouncer, where a single staircase takes you from a brasserie dinner to a night of dancing.
Because it is Saint-Germain's most accessible party: go up one floor and change decades.
