There are dinners with a view. And then there is Dar Mima, perched on the roof of the Institut du Monde Arabe, overlooking the Seine.
On the ninth floor, the lift opens onto an Oriental palace imagined by designer Laura Gonzalez: velvet, marble and gold-leaf frescoes. Jamel Debbouze founded the restaurant with Laurent de Gourcuff as a tribute to his mother Fatima, “Mima”, whose cooking inspires the menu.
Man'ouché, fattoush, pastilla and tagines: Moroccan and Levantine influences meet in dishes designed for sharing. Mint tea flows at afternoon tea, brunch brings weekends to life, and service continues late into the evening.
The view takes in the Seine, Notre-Dame and the rooftops of the Right Bank. At sunset, the terrace becomes one of the capital's most romantic spots. In summer, the SAMA rooftop keeps the evening going with music.
Because the family story, Arabian Nights setting and view create a warm sense of romance, far removed from stuffier restaurants.
Dar Mima, the flavours of the East above the Seine.
