Umami makes its small scale part of the experience. Jessica Fieger runs the dining room and René Fieger cooks, in a restaurant with just 16 seats on rue des Dentelles. The menu brings together French ingredients and Asian flavours, including miso, dashi and curry in the menu reviewed.
There is no à la carte choice: the restaurant offers two menus. The Umami menu is listed at €95 and the vegetarian menu at €78, with wine or alcohol-free pairings available separately. That makes the format easy to understand before booking, particularly for a couple seeking a longer meal in Petite France.
Read the dietary policy carefully. The restaurant states that it cannot accommodate gluten, garlic, sesame or dairy allergies and intolerances. It opens for dinner from Friday to Monday, plus lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
